Kanoko Pants

Standard

I’ve talked a bit about Maddy’s tactile defensiveness here. One of the ways in which we are trying to address this issue, is to expose her to clothing around her waist that she can tolerate for short bursts of time (whether that be 15 minutes or a couple of hours). As soon as she starts showing signs that she is irritated, they are taken off immediately.

We’ve bought a couple of pairs of leggings a size too big so they are not tight at all (as these are less irritating to her). I have had in my head that come fall, I will sew her a couple of pairs making the waist a perfect fit for her. But, last week, I came across the most adorable pair of knitted pants on pinterest (who doesn’t love pinterest??!).

You can find the pattern here.

I was so excited that I decided to make them… and I became obsessed with finishing them, staying up much past my bedtime several nights in a row. I used Red Heart Soft Touch yarn so hopefully it won’t bother Maddy’s legs.

These are by far the most complex thing I’ve knitted (although, they’re really not that difficult). I made the 18-24 month size so Maddy could wear them next fall/winter. As you can see, they already fit. Not sure if they’ll last – but if they don’t, I can just make her another pair.

I just think these are the sweetest pants!

They look cute, and Maddy can still motor around in them.

I learned a new skill too – the pants have a drawstring around the waist, so I had to learn how to do a chain stitch (the first crochet stitch I’ve learned).

If you’d like to learn how to do a chain stitch, here’s where I learned:

These will be great for Maddy as the drawstring waist will allow us to keep them loose on her. So happy with how these turned out!
